I remember waking up in the middle of the night, and not being able to breathe. My mom had me to the doctor’s about once a week, and then they started to do allergy testing. I think I was allergic to every known allergen, in the world. It didn’t take long for her to get a whole-house air purification system installed. She was the best and she wanted only the best for us kids. When I graduated and went to college, I didn’t give the allergies a second thought. The air purification system in our home, had controlled my allergies so well, I almost forgot how bad they were. I was only in the dorm for a couple of months when they came back with a vengeance. There was a minimal amount of air conditioning, but there wasn’t any air purification in place. I called mom, and she brought a portable air purifier to the dorm, but it wasn’t strong to do what I needed done. I went to the school guidance counselor and I told them what my problem was. He said that there wasn’t much he could do about the air conditioning, but maybe he could help with the problem of the air purification system. He told me to go to the infirmary, and he gave me a note. Two days later, I was given a private room in a different part of the dorm. I didn’t know that the college had an area in the dorms for special needs. I had my own private room, complete with an air purifier, and it didn’t take long for me to start feeling better.
