Life can change one’s perspective. When I was a kid, I thought that electricity and indoor plumbing were things everyone had everywhere. When I was a teenager I thought that college was something everyone had to do, and didn’t think about the money necessary for it. The more you learn and develop wisdom, the better perspective you have on things. When I went camping for the very first time, I thought it was fun and really enjoyed it. Then I learned that some people didn’t have homes and lived outside exposed to the elements, which changed my mindset. When I spent a summer without air conditioning at that camp, I thought it was the worst thing that ever happened to me. It was my first time going many hours without AC so it was a shock. Later in life I had to spend a single night sleeping in a stalled car with no heating in the midst of a snowstorm, and I yearned to be back at that camp! One night without a heater, when i really needed one, was far worse than a whole summer of sweating the nights away lacking air conditioning. It changed my perspective. I found that heating is actually more important than cooling. Don’t get me wrong, I still enjoy an air conditioned house, and don’t plan to live without it. But heating can occasionally be a matter of life and death, not just comfort like is frequently the case with cooling.
